![]() These are the active feeding hours for many of the animals. The next optimal times are in the late afternoon and in the couple of hours prior to sunset. ![]() At dawn or just afterwards presents one of the best opportunities to see wildlife. I found this information online: "Getting up early in the mountains pays off. I certainly wouldn't want to see one while walking along the road! We were always safely in our car. There were warning signs that bears were out and about at most of the sights we visited. I think the chance of seeing a bear is a matter of luck. ![]() We did see one up close right next to the parking lot at Minnewanka Lake, one along the road on the Icefield Parkway, and one in Waterton Lakes National Park. Sorry I'm not the person who saw the bears. If you feel this information has helped you, it would be appreciated if you would tap the □ below. You can have great views of the stars at night here and, as I was told by a ranger from Yoho National Park, this can be a good spot to see the Aurora Borealis (although I think Lake Minnewanka might be even better), especially if it's a clear night and the kp is 5 or higher. There are white suckers, as well as a unique fish called brook sticklebacks, which grows to about two inches. If you're a birder, there are lots to see, depending on the time of year you visit. The wetlands here bring a wide variety of animals, from beavers to muskrats, elk and in spring grizzlies sometimes will catch spawning suckers and enjoy a little lunch. The road is quite narrow in areas and there are A LOT of bicyclists!!! The lakes, with several beautiful marshes are very worthy of seeing. The lakes are almost in Banff, a few minutes away. Briefly visited Vermillion Lakes from Calgary to Radium Hot Springs to enjoy the beginning of my exploration of the Canadian Rockies.
